Who Knew?

Who knew when BlissPR decided to do a Financial Symposium earlier this year that the topic of discussion would turn out to be evergreen—or at least timely and relevant enough to still be media worthy a few months later. The topic:  How does the financial services industry rebuild trust? I am sorry to say, that the industry seems to continue to drown under negative media coverage. Just as the LIBOR-fixing scandal fades from the headlines, we are introduced to the breakdown of Knight. The news did bring to mind some of the comments that the panelists made in the video clip of the discussion above. These comments were made at the BlissPR Financial Services Symposium our firm hosted on May 21st at the Princeton Club in New York City. Moderated by Diane Brady, senior editor of Bloomberg Businessweek, the panel included David Reavis, senior vice president and external communications director at KeyCorp; Michael Campbell, president and CEO of Dominick and Dominick; Stormy Byorum, executive vice president of Stephens, Inc.; Mary Joan Hoene, counsel at Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP and former SEC regulator; and Teresa Ressel, former CFO and assistant secretary for management at the U.S. Treasury. Let’s hope the dog days of August offer an opportunity for the industry to begin to take a big picture look at the issue of reputation and decide to take action on a reset.
